Film Supply Technology

Helix Packaging supplies packaging consumables for businesses in Australia, including flexible packaging films, pre-made pouches and packaging trays. Our materials can be matched to different products, packaging machines and shelf-life requirements.

We work with customers to select the right film structure based on sealing performance, barrier requirements, product temperature, recyclability, presentation and machine compatibility. From standard bagging and wrapping films through to high-barrier, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), skin pack, hot-fill and recyclable structures, we can develop and supply materials matched to your application.

Bagging Film

Our bagging films are available in a range of structures for vertical and horizontal form-fill-seal applications. Options include:

  • Recyclable APCO-aligned materials: Mono-material and recyclable film structures developed to support Australian packaging sustainability requirements.
  • High-barrier films: Designed to help protect products against oxygen, moisture and other external factors, supporting product-specific shelf-life requirements.
  • Hot-fill films: Suitable for soups, sauces and other products packed at elevated temperatures.
  • General-purpose bagging films: Customised to suit product, sealing and machine requirements.

Film specifications can be tailored for seal strength, puncture resistance, clarity, printability, stiffness and barrier performance.

Lidding Film

We supply specialised lidding films for tray sealing applications across fresh, chilled, frozen and ready-meal products. Available options include:

  • Contamination-tolerant sealing films: Designed to provide reliable seals where moisture, oil or product contamination may be present around the tray flange, within the specified sealing conditions.
  • High-barrier lidding films: For products requiring enhanced oxygen and moisture protection.
  • MAP films: Suitable for modified atmosphere packaging applications requiring controlled gas retention and barrier performance to help maintain product quality and support shelf-life requirements.
  • Skin pack films: Vacuum skin packaging films designed to form closely around the product and seal to the tray or backing board, supporting product presentation, stability and product-specific shelf-life requirements.
  • APCO-aligned recyclable films: Recyclable structures designed for compatible tray and packaging systems.
  • Easy-peel PET lidding films: Providing controlled, consumer-friendly peel performance on PET trays.
  • Ovenable films: Suitable for products designed to be heated or cooked in the tray under the specified conditions.
  • Anti-fog films: Helping maintain clear product visibility in chilled and high-moisture applications.
  • Aluminium foil tray sealing films: Suitable for aluminium trays and applications requiring high-temperature resistance or strong barrier performance.

Film structures can be matched to the tray material, product profile, sealing conditions, forming depth, barrier requirements and shelf-life target.

Pre-Made Pouches

Helix can supply customised pre-made pouches in a wide range of formats, materials and printed finishes. Available options include:

  • Stand-up pouches
  • Zip-lock / resealable pouches
  • Coffee pouches with degassing valves
  • Box-bottom pouches
  • Side-gusseted pouches
  • Custom high-barrier and recyclable pouch structures

Pouches can be supplied printed or unprinted and configured around the required barrier level, seal system, closure type, filling process and shelf-life requirements.

Film Printing

Helix can supply custom printed films and pouches to combine packaging performance with product presentation and branding. Printing options can be developed to suit:

  • Multi-colour branded packaging
  • High-quality graphics and product presentation
  • Registered print for packaging machinery
  • Barcodes, product information and regulatory labelling
  • Matte, gloss and other surface finishes
  • Short, medium and high-volume production requirements
  • Printed recyclable and high-barrier film structures

Artwork, print repeat and film construction can be coordinated to suit the packaging machine and finished pack format.

Packaging Material Development

Selecting the correct film is about more than choosing a thickness or material type. Film performance must be considered together with the product, tray or pouch, sealing temperature, machine speed, storage conditions, shelf-life requirements and distribution environment.

Helix combines packaging machinery experience with film supply to help customers develop a complete packaging solution, with materials designed to run reliably on the packaging equipment while protecting and presenting the finished product.

Recyclability depends on the complete packaging structure and available collection and recycling systems. Material suitability and shelf-life performance should be validated for the finished pack and its intended application.
